NJM Insurance Brings Safe Driving Education to HS Students in Clark
The assemblies highlight distracted driving and seasonal safety for students.

From NjM Insurance: As part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, NJM Insurance Company's Consumer Safety Director Violet Marrero spoke to high school juniors and seniors about teen driver safety during student assemblies at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark on Thursday, April 20.
Tops on the agenda, was an open and frank discussion on the risks associated with distracted driving and what can be done to put safety first. Additionally, as we enter the start of prom and graduation season, Marrero spoke to the students about the dangers on the road during this festive time of year for students, including driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs by them or other drivers on the road and ways to protect friends and relatives who may celebrate too much and try to get behind the wheel.

“Distraction is a leading cause of teen driver crashes, we want you to understand that it is more than texting or talking on the phone,” Marrero said during the presentation. “It is anything that takes your attention of the road like changing the radio or talking with friends who are with you in the car.”
NJM, one of New Jersey’s leading automobile insurers, launched its Teen Driver Safety Program in 2013. Since that time, the program has addressed more than 84,000 students. NJM has received national recognition for its efforts to improve teen driver safety. In 2016, NJM received the National Safety Council’s prestigious Teen Driving Safety Leadership Award in recognition of the Teen Driver Safety Program.

The award-winning program is designed to help teens stay safe behind the wheel, and is led at schools across New Jersey, by NJM’s safety officers, retired police officers with more than 50 years of combined traffic safety experience. In addition to general road safety, the program also addresses texting behind the wheel, one of the leading causes of distracted driving and subsequent accidents for teens.
Beyond the Teen Driver Safety Program, NJM’s community outreach and educational programs – targeted at the New Jersey motorist population at large – have reached thousands throughout the state with its message of safety and attentiveness behind the wheel.
