Westfield Area YMCA Hiring For Summer Jobs

After a year of isolation, remote learning and missed extracurricular activities, teens and young adults have more reasons than ever to gain a summer job. According to the American Camp Association, the essence of camp is in the human relationships forged in a safe, caring and supportive environment. Being part of that staff team develops hands-on leadership skills and the chance to be a positive role model influencing the emotional lives of kids who have had anything but a normal year.

The Westfield Area YMCA has always been a magnet for summer jobs, especially among those who grew up at the Y. “Each year, about 60-70% of our camp staff is returning from a previous summer and many of those were former campers themselves,” according to Marty Collett, Senior Director of SACC, Camp and Teens. Camp staff receive over 20 hours of paid pre-camp training.

The Y also has seasonal, part-time and full-time Lifeguard and Swim Instructor jobs. Lifeguard Course trainings are scheduled throughout May and June and include Basic Life Support, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration.
