Westfield Area YMCA Hiring For Summer Jobs

Positions include lifeguard, swim instructor and camp staff.

Press release from the Westfield Area YMCA:

April 27, 2021

After a year of isolation, remote learning and missed extracurricular activities, teens and young adults have more reasons than ever to gain a summer job. According to the American Camp Association, the essence of camp is in the human relationships forged in a safe, caring and supportive environment. Being part of that staff team develops hands-on leadership skills and the chance to be a positive role model influencing the emotional lives of kids who have had anything but a normal year.

The Westfield Area YMCA has always been a magnet for summer jobs, especially among those who grew up at the Y. “Each year, about 60-70% of our camp staff is returning from a previous summer and many of those were former campers themselves,” according to Marty Collett, Senior Director of SACC, Camp and Teens. Camp staff receive over 20 hours of paid pre-camp training.

The Y also has seasonal, part-time and full-time Lifeguard and Swim Instructor jobs. Lifeguard Course trainings are scheduled throughout May and June and include Basic Life Support, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration. To schedule the free physical skills test required before course registration, contact Rob Faggiano at rfaggiano@westfieldynj.org or 908-301-YMCA (9622) x276.
