Westfield Father, Sons To Open Brewery In Kenilworth

Two Ton Brewing will host a grand opening on Saturday at 3 p.m.

KENILWORTH, NJ — A Westfield family is brewing up business by opening their first location at 730 Federal Ave. in Kenilworth on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Sons Matt and Jim and father Dr. Mario Barbiere officially formed Two Ton Brewing in 2014. However, Jim, the president and head brewer of Two Ton, had been home brewing since 1998.

“I saw his talent and took the lead to go commercial,” said Matt Barbiere, chief executive office of Two Ton. “We rented a small space in Linden where we operated as contract brewers or also called ‘gypsy brewers.’ We would essentially pay brewers to make our recipes.”

The family would go to beer shows and festivals to promote their brand and wholesale their brews. They received notoriety when they were awarded first place winner of the People's Choice Award, 2017 Big Brew Festival and second place winner, People's Choice Award, 2016 Big Brew Festival.

The family then decided to settle down some roots in Kenilworth. The brewery will offer tours and samples of products.

Two Ton Brewing will offer a rotating menu based on the season and also has some core favorites available year-round including The Extra-Special Chocolate-Vanilla Porter, a blonde ale, an Imperial IPA, Pumpkin Ale and a new sour beer project.

“Really just opening our doors for the first time ever is special for us,” Matt said.
