Cash Mob In Collingswood As Part Of Shop Local Event Sept. 28

Organizers and local businesses are asking shoppers to spend at least $28 on Sept. 28 during a town-wide event.

COLLINGSWOOD, NJ — Collingswood and Camden County will host a cash mob shopping event as part of Camden County’s “Shop Camden County” campaign on Sept. 28.

The premise is simple: Organizers and local businesses are asking shoppers to spend at least $28 on Sept. 28 during a town-wide shopping event that includes discounts and giveaways for participants. The influx of cash from hundreds of shoppers can an immediate impact on a community.

“It’s such a simple concept, and fun, too. Bring a friend, bring the family and grab dinner, buy a gift, treat yourself - just do it locally,” Collingswood Director of Community Development Cass Duffey said. “To make it even more fun, there are dozens of sales and specials that night. See what local merchants have to offer. Meet your business owners and support them. Then party a little! It’s all about celebrating these businesses and showcasing what Collingswood has to offer. Creating a successful business district is really a partnership.”

County officials say that if residents transition just $10 per month of their out-of-county retail spending to in-county spending, the economic benefit to the county would be about $35 million per year.

In Collingswood, that economic impact could reach $1.1 million. Camden County and Collingswood teamed up for cash mob events for the past few years that have brought hundreds of shoppers and thousands of dollars to Collingswood merchants.

The campaign is designed to promote local job growth, save time, money and the environment when consumers travel less, save on time and fuel, provide products at competitive prices and create community involvement with business owners that are involved in local events, charities and other community activities.
