Collingswood HS Student Brought Gun To School: Prosecutor

COLLINGSWOOD, NJ — A student at Collingswood High School was arrested for possession of a gun at school, authorities said Friday night.

A 15-year-old boy from Woodlynne was charged with bringing a hand gun to school on Friday, Sept. 27, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Collingswood Police Department.

A group of students reported to a counselor that a student was in possession of a handgun late Friday afternoon, according to a post on the school district's website.

The counselor relayed that information to district administration, and the student was removed from class, officials said.

The student was searched, and officials discovered that he was in possession of a handgun. The school district notified police, and the student was taken into custody, officials said.

No one was injured, and there were no reported threats made to the students or the school, according to the prosecutor's office.

"The Collingswood High School staff and administration pride themselves on developing and maintaining trusting relationships with students and would like to thank the students who came forward with this information," Collingswood High School Principal Matthew Genna said in the post.

The student was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to the Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Collingswood Police Chief Kevin Carey. The juvenile was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon in an educational institution and possession of firearms by minors.
