Collingswood U Speaker Series Gives Residents A Platform

Human trafficking. A food co-op. Fracking. Just a handful of topics that Collingswood residents are passionate about. A new borough program will give citizens a chance to reach out to their neighbors to spread the word about the causes close to their heart.

The Collingswood U speaker series is the brainchild of Mayor James Maley who is often approached by citizens that want to make change or inform their community about issues important to them.

“So many residents reach out to me wishing more people knew about these things,” said Maley. “We figured the best way to help them was to give them a louder voice. Whatever you’re fighting for, we wanted to give people the opportunity to tell others.”

The programs provide groups and speakers with time and space at the Collingswood Community Center and help speakers promote their event. The series begins on December 2 with a presentation on Human Trafficking by Kelly Master of Dining for Dignity. Master founded Dining for Dignity (DfD) in 2011 with a passion to elevate awareness in her community about human trafficking. DfD is a non-profit that exposes the reality of sex trafficking.
