Oaklyn P.D. Rolls Out 'Click It or Ticket' Program

Motorists can expect enhanced enforcement through June 2.

From May 20 through June 2, you'll want to make sure you're buckled up if you're driving through the borough of Oaklyn.

That's good advice every day of the year, but it's especially pertinent for the next two weeks, as police in the borough up their enforcement of seat belt laws during the statewide Click It or Ticket campaigns.

Want a refresher on the finer points of New Jersey seat belt laws

  • Everyone in car must wear a seatbelt. That goes for people in the front and back seats, too.
  • It's the responsibility of the driver to make sure every passenger from 8 to 18 is buckled up.
  • Police may also issue summonses to unbuckled passengers in the back seat of a vehicle that is stopped for another violation.
  • The law applies to any vehicle equipped with seat belts: vans, SUVs and passenger vehicles.

According to a statement from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, the front seat belt usage rate in New Jersey declined for the first time in 15 years, to 88 percent. The statewide Click It or Ticket campaigns are aimed at moving that number to more than 90 percent this year.
