A witness told authorities that 21-year-old Dwayne Graves shot 26-year-old Jose Morel, of Collingswood, during an attempted robbery at Morel’s apartment on Nov. 17, according to the probable cause statement in the case provided by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

The witness said they had been visiting Morel at his apartment on the 500 block of North Newton Lake Drive at about 8:30 p.m. that night. They said they had seen a large bag of marijuana on the table upon entering the apartment, according to authorities.

Officers found blood, four spent shell casings and marijuana buds strewn across the floor of Morel’s apartment, according to authorities.

After interviewing the witness, police reviewed surveillance footage that showed three men entering the building on the second-floor terrace at about 10:06 p.m. Two of the men matched the descriptions for Graves and Haskins, while the third man was wearing a black jacket with his hood up, according to authorities.

After the shooting, at about 10:13 p.m., authorities said the same three men were seen leaving through the same door, and they were in a hurry. One of them appeared to be putting something in his waist area, authorities said.

They were captured on surveillance video getting into a vehicle outside the apartment complex and fleeing the scene, authorities said.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19, 20-year-old Damian Crews of Collingswood contacted police and told them he was the third man in the video, authorities said. Crews also lives in the apartment complex.
He said the three of them were on their way up to the seventh floor when they heard gunshots being fired and ran back the way they came, according to authorities. He said they went to a relative’s house nearby.

The following day, Graves contacted police and told them the same story, adding that he fell while running away and busted his lip, according to authorities.

On Monday, Nov. 25, Haskins was arrested on an unrelated matter, authorities said previously. During an interview at the prosecutor’s office, he told detectives the same story, adding that the item he put in his waistband was a large amount of marijuana, according to authorities.

Detectives then reviewed additional surveillance footage they said showed Crews walking toward Morel’s apartment at about 9:33 p.m. that night. A short time later, Crews is seen back on the floor where his apartment is with a bag of marijuana, authorities said.

He left through the terrace door at 9:56 p.m., and got into a vehicle that approached him two minutes later, authorities said. Crews, Graves and Haskins then entered the terrace doors on the second floor at about 10:06 p.m.

Crews was arrested in Collingswood on Nov. 27. Haskins and Crews are both are in Camden County Jail awaiting a pre-trial detention hearing.
