Cranford Braces For Weekend Winter Blast

Cranford Police and Office of Emergency Management are calling for caution as the bad weather moves in.

CRANFORD, NJ - The first significant round of winter weather since November is expected to his the state this weekend and the Cranford Police and Office of Emergency Management are calling for caution.

According to officials, the Cranford Police Department and Office of Emergency Management is closely following the severe weather forecast for our area this weeknd. Below is a listing of important information related to the storm:

FORECAST:
A winter storm watch remains in effect for Union County over the weekend. Snow is expected to begin late Saturday evening and possibly changing into a mix of sleet, freezing rain. Monday temperatures will be extremely cold and expected to be in the single digits.

Due to the quick drop in temperatures late Sunday, it will be important to clear snow off of sidewalks and areas as any standing water or snow may flash freeze on Sunday night/Monday morning.

SNOW REMOVAL:
Residents should ensure that they do not shovel or snow blow their snow back into the roadway after it has been plowed as this creates a hazardous condition. Also, anyone with a fire hydrant near their property is asked to keep the hydrant clear of snow in the event of an emergency.

ON STREET PARKING:
Residents are asked to remove all vehicles from the roadways to assist the DPW in keeping the roads clear and to ensure the safe passage of fire engines and other emergency vehicles. Please use your driveway, a family member's, or a neighbor’s driveway if possible.

Parking WILL NOT be permitted in the municipal lots or parking garage except for those with the proper parking permits.

The Township snow emergency ordinance prohibits parking on certain roadways during snow storms. Below is a listing of all Township, County, and State roadways that prohibit parking:

  • High Street
  • Hillcrest Avenue
  • Kenilworth Boulevard
  • Lexington Avenue
  • Lincoln Avenue East
  • Manor Avenue
  • Normandie Place
  • North Avenue (Route 28)
  • North Lehigh Avenue
  • North Union Avenue
  • Orange Avenue
  • Orchard Street
  • Raritan Road
  • Retford Avenue
  • Riverside Drive
  • South Avenue
  • South Union Avenue

CLOSURES:
The Municipal Building, Cranford Public Library, and Community Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 21 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Centennial Avenue Pool will be open normal hours.

All Cranford Public School are closed on Monday, Jan. 21 for the holiday as well
