Cranford Committee, School Board Races Decided

The final numbers came in for committee and school board races in Cranford, as of Saturday.

CRANFORD, NJ — The Union County Clerk posted updated vote totals on Saturday for the Cranford Committee and school board races. While the totals were considered unofficial, for Cranford, 100 percent of districts reported.

These were the vote totals for the four candidates competing for two Cranford committee seats, with 100 percent of districts reporting:

  • Democratic candidate Brian Andrews: 6,097
  • Democratic candidate Jason Gareis 5,817
  • Republican candidate Chrissa Stulpin 3,985
  • Republican candidate Regina "Gina" Black 3,932
  • Write-in: 24

For the Cranford school board race for three open seats, with 100 percent of districts reporting, these were the tallies:

  • Kristen Mallon: 6,895
  • Lisa Carbone: 6,867
  • Kurt Petschow: 6,446
  • Francis Riccio III: 2,580
  • Write-in: 169

The election drew an impressive 41 percent of registered voters in Union County, with 152,634 people voting out of 372,854.

A county official said the numbers were unofficial results for machine and vote-by-mail ballots.

How Union County voted: President and marijuana

With 100 percent of districts reporting:

In Union County, 71 percent of the votes, or 106,913, went for President-Elect Joe Biden. Another 28 percent of the votes, or 42,032, were for President Donald Trump. Libertarian Jo Jorgensen won 637 votes, and a write-in candidate grabbed 517.

For the vote to legalize marijuana usage, about 68 percent of Union County voters, or 88,870, were in favor. 41,443 voted no.
