Cranford Cops Delivery Baby Boy In Home
Patrolmen Daniel Donnerstag and Nicholas Cook helped bring a new life into the world.

CRANFORD, NJ - Monday's duty shift for Cranford Patrolmen Daniel Donnerstag and Nicholas Cook turned out to be one they will never forget as the duo helped deliver a newborn baby inside a family's home.
Donnerstag and Cook were on patrol around 3:46 a.m. Monday morning when they were dispatched to a call for a pregnant woman in labor, police said. Ruth Orozco had gone into labor in her Cranford home and contractions were only a minute apart and the baby’s head had begun crowning.
Donnerstag, an EMT and 5-year veteran of the force, quickly arrived on scene and assessed the situation, making a determination that their time was limited and the delivery would have to be delivered in the home right then and there. Donnerstag assisted with the delivery, calmly, police said.

The Cranford First Aid Squad took the baby boy and mother to Overlook Hospital, Summit for evaluation.
