CRANFORD, NJ — It may have seemed like a small hazard at first, but when two 7-year-old Cranford girls alerted an adult to a hanging wire near Dartmouth Road on Friday, police reacted to what could have been a dangerous situation.

According to a neighbor post on Patch from one of the girls' dad, Tom Terry, "While enjoying a hot spring afternoon, the eagle-eyed youngsters noticed a phone wire had been ripped from a pole by a passing truck and posed danger to any unsuspecting vehicles. Keira and Clara raced over to tell an adult and Cranford Police were contacted. Moments later officer B. Trotter showed on the scene to reroute traffic and call in reinforcements!"

The girls were rewarded with ice cream and a photo op with Cranford's finest.
