CRANFORD, N.J. — Catarina Guimaraes got the "jump" on the competition at the U.S. Paralympics Trials recently. She broke two American records in the long jump event.

Guimaraes, who has cerebral palsy, is an athlete, author, musician and student at Cranford High School.

Her athletic achievements and other achievements are chronicled on her website and on Instagram.

In the most recent Cranford Township newsletter, Mayor Kathleen Miller Prunty wrote, "Congratulations to Cranford's own Catarina Guimaraes! This young woman, a Cranford High School athlete, broke two American records in the Long Jump event at the US Paralympics Trials. Catarina was mentioned on NBC coverage that continues today.

"Your dedication and hard work despite living with Cerebral Palsy are an inspiration. Thank you for representing Cranford so well."
