Fireworks Being Considered In Cranford; Memorial Parade Back On
Cranford is now planning a limited in-person Memorial Day Parade, and the town is still considering what to do about July fireworks.
CRANFORD, NJ — After initially canceling the Memorial Day Parade, the township of Cranford says it is planning a limited in-person event on May 31. The town is also discussing whether it will hold fireworks this year.
In a newsletter summarizing recent Township Committee activities, Mayor Kathleen Prunty wrote, "A modified Memorial Day parade and ceremony will be held to honor service members, particularly Cranford residents, who lost their lives serving our country. Details will be announced."
For now, the parade will be held May 31 at 9 a.m. on the same parade route as past years. "Please socially distance when watching the parade," says a current flyer.

After the story ran, a resident posted at the bottom, questioning why it couldn't be held in person. "So Cranford can host a Cran-tucky event — which by the way is great — but we cannot have the Memorial Day Parade? " she asked.

Fireworks talk
Also according to the newsletter, "Discussion ensued about the fireworks display with safety concerns, including ability to maintain distancing. The mayor said that each of us appreciates the fireworks but like other events, the township is making decisions with uncertainty about what the coming weeks and months will bring. Deputy Mayor Andrews will follow up with Public Safety officials and report back to Township Committee (this discussion took place before new CDC guidelines)."
