Letter: Union County Mayors Encouraged To Support Affordable Housing
The SHA of NJ is concerned about the efforts of mayors to impede the progress made in the development of affordable housing in Union County.

To the Editor:
The Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey encourages the mayors in Union County to continue the progress New Jersey is making in creating affordable housing for the thousands of New Jerseyans with disabilities who continue to wait for the opportunity to live in quality homes they can afford.
More than 130 towns which have reached settlements under the Mount Laurel doctrine. The result is that these families now have the opportunity to get the supportive housing they deserve so they can live close to their loved ones.

There are many ways to meet affordable housing guidelines including 100 percent affordable developments, redevelopment, scattered site and other options that fit best in a community. We encourage mayors to work with local non-profits and other affordable housing developers to meet their constitutional fair housing obligations by expanding options for people with special needs without delay. Strong fair housing policies are necessary to build a state where every person is included.
