Updated: Cranford Man Passes Away After Being Hit By Car
Police are looking for more information in the Tuesday morning accident.

CRANFORD, NJ — A Cranford man passed away on Tuesday after being hit by a car while crossing the street in that town at 6:33 a.m. that morning.
Police updated the information on Wednesday to say the victim is Kenneth Ballman, 78, of Cranford. They had temporarily withheld his identity pending notification of next of kin.
The Police Department said that a 51-year-old Kenilworth man was driving a 2006 Hyundai Sonata southbound on Springfield Avenue, approaching Orange Avenue Tuesday morning.

Ballman was apparently crossing Springfield Avenue, just south of the intersection, and was struck in the roadway. He was transported to an area hospital with significant injuries. He died at the hospital a short time later, police said.
The operator of the Hyundai stayed on scene and cooperated with law enforcement officials, police said.

Springfield Avenue was closed to all traffic for several hours this morning while members of the Cranford Police Department and Union County Police Department Traffic Unit investigated the crash scene.
No charges have been filed at this time.
