New Coronavirus Death Reported In Cranford

The death of another Cranford resident from COVID-19 was reported Friday. The local high school and municipal offices went remote this week.

CRANFORD, NJ — The township of Cranford reported this past Friday that another resident has passed away from coronavirus, increasing the death toll since the start of the pandemic to 104.

By this Wednesday, the newest count increased cases confirmed in town to 1,105 since March, with no new deaths.

A week ago Wednesday, Cranford's confirmed case count risen to 1,072. There were also 125 active cases reported in town last Wednesday.

The total population of Cranford is approximately 24,000.

Cranford High School went remote for two weeks starting this past Monday after three cases were reported in the school community in two days. And municipal offices went remote as of last Friday.

Union County continues to remain in a high-risk "Red Zone" for the virus, according to the state. The total cases in the county rose by 1,148 over the previous week, to 42,428. The death toll for Union County was 1,446 on Friday, up 19 from the previous week.

By Wednesday of this week, the American death toll due to coronavirus had jumped to 425,000 lives.
