One More Coronavirus Death In Cranford
There have now been 109 Cranford residents who've passed away from the virus, some in long-term care.
CRANFORD, NJ — The township of Cranford said Monday that there has been one new death of a resident from coronavirus since last week's update, bringing the death toll from the virus to 109.
While some of those deaths have been in long-term care facilities, this fatality was a person "in the community," the update said.
As of Monday, there were 49 active cases in town, and 10 new cases diagnosed since the last update last week.

In total, there have been 86 new cases confirmed in March, for a total of 1,311 in town since the start of the pandemic, the township said.

There have been five deaths in Cranford due to coronavirus confirmed in February and March 2021.

Local trends
The second wave of the virus continues to impact New Jersey and Union County. There were 13 new deaths from the virus countywide from March 12-19. READ MORE: Union County's Coronavirus Cases Up 2.5 Percent Since Last Week
In New Jersey on Tuesday, it was announced that there were 61 new coronavirus deaths confirmed since the day before. That makes 21,727 confirmed deaths in the state.
There are presently 1,992 patients hospitalized with the virus, 428 of those in critical care, 50.7 percent of those on ventilators. There are 400 reports in the state of new variants.
While the daily fatality rate has declined since the winter holidays, it never returned to the level it was at last August and September, before the second wave in New Jersey. There were a total of only two coronavirus fatalities reported statewide from Sept. 7 to Sept. 8.
On April 30, 2020, the one-day death toll in New Jersey reached an all-time high of 460 residents in 24 hours.
As of Tuesday, approximately 543,000 Americans had died of coronavirus. (You can see which states had the highest death toll in the past week on this CDC map.)
