Cranford Residents Escape From House Fire (Updated)
Police announced two temporary road closures due to "Fire Department activity" Wednesday morning.

CRANFORD, NJ — The residents of a Cranford home on Shadowlawn Way were able to escape safely after a fire burned through the roof of the house, according to a Facebook post on Wednesday.

The Westfield Fire Department, which provided mutual aid to the Cranford FD, noted, "At approximately 10:20 Wednesday morning, Ladder 1 was requested to the scene to assist the Cranford Fire Department/ Cranford FMBA Local 37 on a 2nd alarm structure fire. Upon arrival, crews were instructed to vent the roof, and then to assist on the interior pulling ceiling and conducting a secondary search."
In the end, they said, "Westfield crews were on scene for about 90 minutes before being released by command. Strong work by all companies on scene resulted in a quick knock down and no reported injuries."

The Cranford police had announced two emergency road closures between 10 and 11:30 a.m. Wednesday due to "Fire Department Activity."
The first police alert, just before 10 a.m., said West North Avenue was closed at North Union Avenue due to Fire Department activity.

The second said Lincoln Avenue was closed at Denman Road due to Fire Department activity. It said the threat was "minor."
