The Garden Club of Cranford met in March via ZOOM. The talented Carol English presented a program entitled "Spring Bulb Success". Carol discussed the ease and reward associated with forcing chilled Tulip, Crocus and Daffodil bulbs. Ms. English presented a variety of containers filled with small stones and water. A selection of chilled bulbs were placed on the surface of the stones- just skimming the water. She noted that chilled bulbs may also be planted in a pot using dirt. It is optimal to keep the arrangement in a light filled, warm location. For those interested in trying this, chilled bulbs are available for purchase from online sources. Within days of placing the bulbs in your chosen medium, you should see evidence of growth. Give it a try and reap the reward of beautiful, forced blooms this spring. Following their indoor show, bulbs may be planted outside in your garden to be enjoyed in future seasons.
