Union County College Women’s Basketball Wins Second Game This Week

The Union County College Women's Basketball team won a second game this week, this one against Valley Forge Military Academy.

From Union County College: The Union County College Women’s Basketball team won a second game this week, this one against Valley Forge Military Academy. They won by a sore of 92-65 on Sat., Nov. 19, in the gym at the Cranford campus.

Within two minutes of the start of the first quarter, Union’s power forward, Kiante Johnson, (Jersey City, NJ) had to leave the floor with two quick fouls. The first quarter ended with Union in the lead 23-17. During the second quarter, Valley Forge moved ahead while Ms. Johnson was off the court and went on a series of points scored by Beverly Kum. However, the half ended with Lady Owls ahead 49-42.

The third quarter started with a bang and Ms. Johnson wanted to redeem herself. She scored 13 points and had 12 rebounds. Point guard Acestra Robinson (Hillside) added two three pointers and a duce, and shooting guard Frankie Cherasaro (North Plainfield) draining the three ball and two free throws, which allowed the Lady Owls to end the third quarter leading by a score of 76-53.

The final score was 92-65. Lady Owls who were big contributors were Acestra Robinson (#11) with 20 points and four assists, Kiante Johnson (#20) with 19 points, 23 rebounds, and three steals; and Frankie Chersasaro (#3) had 16 points, three steals and three assists. For Valley Forge were Beverly Kum (#31) and Sidney Barrowboth (#10) with 16 points each.
