United Way of Greater Union County (UWGUC), a 501(C) (3) non-profit organization that focuses on strengthening families across Union County, recently announced they will be hosting the “Ladies That Give a Hoot Dinner” on May 9th, 2019 from 6-9 P.M. in the Shackamaxon Country Club located at 100 Tillinghast Turn, Scotch Plains, NJ. The dinner will be dedicated to raising support for the Nurse Family Partnership, a program that is committed to improving maternal and child health.

UWGUC’s newest Board member, Phyllis Mirabella, is the chair of the planning committee. “As a recently appointed Board member, I learned that there is an urgent need to improve maternal and child health across Union County. It is my hope that we can raise awareness and support for this issue. I look forward to seeing you there,” Mirabella added.

The dinner will raise support by asking those in attendance to sponsor a mother and child enrolled in the Nurse Family Partnership. This program assigns Registered Nurses to meet with mothers 64 times over a two-and-a-half year period. This includes weekly and biweekly visits, prenatal and postpartum. During these visits, nurses will encourage positive preventive health and prenatal practices, health and development education, and life coaching. Current mothers and nurses participating in the Nurse Family Partnership will also be seated at each table, to give their own testimonies.
