Winners Of Cranford Township Committee Election Give Statement

CRANFORD, NJ — The tallies in the Nov. 3 elections on the Union County website — which were revised a few times since Election Day as more mail-in ballots were counted — were official as of Friday. The numbers were updated at 3:19 p.m. that day.

The winners for two spots on the Cranford Township Committee were Democrats Brian Andrews and Jason Gareis.

Here are the final numbers in the race for the two spots:

• Democrat Brian Andrews, 7,988
• Democrat Jason Gareis, 7,556
• Republican Chrissa Stulpin, 6,672
• Republican Regina "Gina" Black, 6,583

Andrews and Gareis jointly issued a statement about the results, and about current issues:

“We would first like to thank all the Cranford residents who navigated this year’s voting process. We would also like to thank all of our supporters who helped throughout the campaign. This campaign would not be a success without your efforts.

“The second wave of COVID-19 is upon us, and we must continue to support Cranford residents and businesses who have been affected by the pandemic. We remain anxious to begin our roles to help all Cranford residents.

“Finally, we would like to acknowledge our opponents Ms. Stulpin and Ms. Black. This election saw both parties run positive campaigns. The decision to run for Township Committee shows a commitment to help Cranford.”

Cranford Democratic Chair BJ Kowalski said, “I’m very proud of Brian and Jason. They managed to connect with people despite the Covid restrictions. We all have a challenging year ahead, and Brian and Jason are ready to serve Cranford. ”

Here are the final numbers in the race for three spots on the Cranford school board:

• Kristen Mallon, 9,715
• Lisa Carbone, 9,646
• Kurt Petschow, 9,047
• Francis Riccio III, 3,770
• Write-in, 226

Biden vs. Trump

How did the presidential candidates do countywide?

In Union County, 67 percent of the votes totaled by Friday were for former Vice President Joe Biden, or 170,245 votes. For President Donald Trump, 80,002 votes were cast, or 31 percent.

Libertarian Jo Jorgensen amassed 1,427 votes, write-ins drew 1,050, Howie Hawkins of the Green party drew 792, and other third party candidates drew about 600 votes.
