East Brunswick Gets State Aid To Repave Riva Avenue
On Nov. 27, East Brunswick Twp. was given a municipal aid grant from the state Dept. of Transportation to resurface Riva Avenue.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — On Nov. 27, East Brunswick Township was awarded a municipal aid grant from the state Department of Transportation. East Brunswick was given $555,000, which will be used to fund the Riva Avenue overlay project.
Riva Avenue, a main thoroughfare in town, will be repaved or resurfaced.
The money came as part of a $3.8 million package in municipal aid grants secured by local legislators, and will go to towns including East Brunswick, Edison, Helmetta, Highland Park and South River.

“These grants show the State’s commitment to support much-needed road improvements in our district," said Senator Patrick Diegnan (D-South Plainfield).

ï‚· Edison: New Dover Rd Rehabilitation
ï‚· Helmetta: Road Improvements on Maple Street
ï‚· Highland Park: Various Roadway Improvements
ï‚· Metuchen: Various Roadway Improvements
ï‚· South Plainfield: Repavement of Corporate Blvd and Cragwood Rd
ï‚· South River: Roadway and Drainage Improvements
“The DOT Municipal Aid will accelerate projects that improve areas our residents and drivers have identified as safety hazards. We will continue to invest in our infrastructure and ensure that our communities have safe roads to get to work, go to school, and respond to emergencies," said Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin (D-East Brunswick).
There are seven project categories within the Municipal Aid program eligible for funding: roadway preservation, roadway safety, quality of life, mobility, bikeway, pedestrian safety and bridge preservation.
The NJ DOT provides 75 percent of the grant amount when a town awards a contract and the remaining 25 percent upon completion of the project.
