East Brunswick PD Establishes Exchange Safe Zone For Online Sales

The police department has established a "safe zone" for people to exchange purchases made through online marketplaces.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Have you bought something on Craigslist, but are apprehensive of a face-to-face meetup?

The East Brunswick Police Department has now established a "Safe Exchange Zone" for Craigslist sales and other online marketplaces.

The safe zone consists of two parking stalls in the parking lot of the Municipal Court, right next to Police Headquarters. These spaces are open and available to the public for conducting in-person transactions that have been facilitated through online marketplaces.

All the parking stalls are indicated by signage.

The designated "Safe Exchange Zone" is available to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.

The police are also granting access to the Police Headquarters lobby to conduct exchanges during non-court hours. To gain access to the lobby, calls have to be made in advance to the police department.

East Brunswick is among a growing number of police departments across the country to establish these “exchange safe zone.”
