EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — East Brunswick school superintendent Victor Valeski on Thursday acknowledged the events that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol, and shared resources to help students deal with trauma and fear.
“Like many of you, I was astonished to watch the events unfold yesterday on live television,” Valeski said in his message to the community.

"From my own personal perspective, how do I answer the questions of my own middle schooler who had just studied the Electoral College and had an understanding of how the Constitution defined Congress’ role in certifying a new President,” said Valeski.
The superintendent said students would have many questions about the events from Wednesday, and that he is committed to creating a safe space for discussing the events.
Valeski said he will be discussing the issue further at the Board of Education meeting on Thursday evening.
Pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S Capitol on Wednesday, trying to prevent the Electoral College certification of Joe Biden as the next president.
