East Brunswick Student Wins Middlesex County Golf Competition

East Brunswick, Middlesex borough, North Brunswick, Saint Joseph of Metuchen, Sayreville and South Brunswick all competed.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — An East Brunswick student came in first place in the first-ever Middlesex County High School Golf Outing, which was held May 24 at the Tamarack Golf Course in East Brunswick. Six schools participated in the tournament, which consisted of a nine-hole challenge, and competitions for chipping and putting.

The participating schools were: East Brunswick, Middlesex Borough, North Brunswick, Saint Joseph of Metuchen, Sayreville and South Brunswick. Players from all six schools competed against each other. That's first-place winner Jason Yu, above, from East Brunswick High.

The Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA), which supervises all Middlesex County golf courses, co-sponsored the event with the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Putting Contest

1st Place – Dan Qi, East Brunswick H.S.

2nd Place – Eegan McDermott, East Brunswick H.S.

3rd Place – Gaby Cano-Cortes, Middlesex H.S.

“This event will be a great new tradition to promote golf in our High Schools and showcase the talent of the young golfers of our County,” said H. James Polos, Executive Director of the MCIA. “I expect we will have a greater turnout next year as word of this successful tournament spreads.”
