Expect Some Rt. 18 Lane Closures Thursday Night

Heads up: There will be some overnight lane closures on Rt. 18 between Main Street and Rues Lane in East Brunswick Thursday night, June 6.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — On Thursday, June 6, the New Jersey Department of Transportation announced a series of staggered overnight lane closures on Rt. 18 between Main Street and Rues Lane in East Brunswick as the pavement rehabilitation project advances in Middlesex County.

Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, June 6, NJDOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt, is scheduled to close one lane on Route 18 northbound between Main Street and Rues Lane to implement a traffic shift towards the right shoulder. A second northbound lane will be closed at 10 p.m. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.

Then at 9 p.m., one lane on Rt. 18 southbound will be closed between Main Street and Rues Lane to implement a traffic shift towards the right shoulder on that side of the roadway. A second lane will be closed at 11 p.m. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.

The closures will allow the roadway to be restriped and put back to original traffic pattern. Work on the northbound and southbound sides of the roadway will be completed by 6 a.m. tomorrow, June 7, and the roadway will be returned to its original three-lane condition.

The $14.2 million federally-funded Route 18, South of Texas Road to Rues Lane, Pavement Improvement project is designed to improve safety and traffic flow by making improvements to six miles of deteriorated pavement and the installation of pedestrian safety devices. The project is expected to be completed in late fall 2019.
