Happy Mother’s Day From Becky And Maya Weisberg

"Trying to focus on just one of your many roles is virtually impossible, but the one we'd like to discuss is your role as a role model."

In celebration of Mother's Day on Sunday May 13, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their mother and let us deliver it. This is Becky and Maya Weisberg's letter to their mom:

Dear Mom,

Oftentimes, when people describe one another, they pick one unique trait to expound upon. “She has flaming red hair that reaches her hips,” or “He’s super smart and attending Harvard on a full ride,” or “She once ate 25 hotdogs in half an hour.” You get the point.

However, we find ourselves struggling to describe you, Mom, for all your character traits shine equally and extraordinarily bright. To focus on your empathy would be a disservice to your generosity. To focus on your generosity would be a disservice to your intelligence. To focus on your intelligence would be a disservice to your strength.

You simply do it all, Mom. You’re our friend when we need someone to be the first to exclaim in happiness that the schools have announced a snow day. You’re our emotional bodyguard when a cliquey teenage girl tries to hurt us. You’re our therapist when we’ve had a hard day, our nurse when we’re sick (either with a virus or with heartache), and our personal assistant when our obligations become too much for us to handle. Trying to focus on just one of your many roles is virtually impossible, but the one we’d like to discuss is your role as a role model.

The battle you fought this year was a difficult one; cancer sure didn’t take it easy on you. And while you couldn’t always be there for us like you were before, somehow all those roles were still your number one priority. You were organizing meals, taking care of our financial matters and even making sure that our social calendars didn’t feel too empty, all while you were too sick to move.

There has been no one on this planet who has exemplified to us such selfless care and endless amounts of strength like you have. It’s a lesson neither of us will soon forget, and it’s one we both hope to be able to pass on to our kids as well. We both are so incredibly lucky to have you as a mother, for without you, neither of us would have been able to imagine such a perfect model of care and compassion.

We are beyond proud to be your daughters. No mother, or even other human being, can hold a candle to the magnitude and multitude of your magnaminty, love and perseverance. We love you more than you will ever know. Happy Mother’s Day!

Love,
Becky And Maya Weisberg
