Obituary: Vincent Capra

Born in Italy, Capra lived in Newark, Hillside, Point Pleasant Beach and lately with his daughter in East Brunswick following Hurricane Sandy.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Vincent Capra, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, who passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, on his 92nd birthday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.

Born in San Polo Matese, Italy, he came to the United States in 1936, settling in Newark. He resided in Hillside for 40 years before moving to Point Pleasant Beach 25 years ago.  He was displaced from his home due to Hurricane Sandy, and had been living with his daughter Diane in East Brunswick for the past six months.

Prior to his retirement 32 years ago, he was a program planner for Western Electric in Kearny, where he worked for 40 years.

He was a member of the Hillside Bacci League, the Hillside Community Pool, and the Hillside Italian American Club. 

As a young man, he was a part of the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp, stationed in Idaho.

He was a caring, giving and loving person whose great loves were his wife, his family and the beach in Point Pleasant.

He was a communicant of Christ the King Church in Hillside, and St. Peter’s Church in Point Pleasant Beach, where he served as an usher in both parishes.

Surviving are his wife, Assunta “Sue” Capra; a son, Nicholas and his wife Marge Capra of Union; two daughters, Loretta and her husband Tony Reda of East Brunswick, and Diane Damiano and her fiancé Al Larsen of East Brunswick; a brother, Ralph Capra of Whippany; six grandchildren, Ronald, Steven, Vincent, Susan, Dana and Gina; and two great grandchildren, Maya and Amina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Church, Hillside.

Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery, Union.

Relatives and friends may call at the Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday.
