Phone Scammers Targeting East Brunswick Residents: Police

Residents are being targeted in a phone scam by individuals claiming to be law enforcement members, police said Tuesday.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Residents in East Brunswick are being targeted in a phone scam by individuals claiming to be law enforcement members, police said Tuesday.

According to the police, a number of East Brunswick residents have reported phone calls from scammers telling them their identity has been compromised, or someone they know was arrested for narcotics while driving.

Scammers are asking residents to buy gift cards and mail them as a form of payment, said the police.

Police is requesting residents to hang up immediately when they receive such calls. “Do not provide anyone over the phone with your personal information or provide any type of payment,” said the police.
