EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Update: As of 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, all lanes of Rt. 18 in East Brunswick have been reopened. However, all the Rt. 18 exit and entrance ramps to the New Jersey Turnpike remain closed because of an overturned tanker truck at the entrance to the Turnpike.
The tanker, carrying crude oil, overturned on its side at 11:15 a.m. It spilled its contents onto the New Jersey Turnpike off-ramp at Exit 9, and haz-mat crews were called to the scene. NJ State Police set up a perimeter around the tanker to clear the scene.
The accident is causing huge traffic delays in the area.
