Sayreville: Rabid Skunk Attacks Dog, County Says

SAYREVILLE, NJ — A rabid skunk attacked a resident's dog in a backyard in Sayreville, the Middlesex County Department of Health announced.

This happened last Thursday, May 16 in the vicinity of Marcia and Lagoda streets, said the county. The skunk was killed in the fight and its carcass was collected by animal control.

The skunk was then taken to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing. Lab results came back Monday that the animal tested positive for rabies.

There were no known human exposures to the skunk. The dog will receive rabies-post exposure treatment from a vet, said the county.
