Vicki Becker Elected East Brunswick BOE President

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The East Brunswick Board of Education elected Vicki Becker as board president on Thursday.

Board member Laurie Lachs nominated Becker saying she was “grace under pressure.”

“An incredibly dedicated board member for 20 years, she’s always made the needs of her district her highest priority,” said Lachs.

“It’s obvious to anyone who meets her how passionate Vicky is about education,” she said.

Members voted 6-2 to elect Becker.

“I appreciate the opportunity to help lead this board. This year will be about transition of leadership, mentorship and consensus and working together to support Dr. Valeski and his team,” said Becker.

“I’m proud to be part of this group. We agree to disagree. I have great respect for everybody in here and together we do wonderful things,” she said

Meanwhile Susanna Chiu nominated Lori Lachs for Vice President with Mark Csizmar also being nominated.

The board voted 5-3 in favor of Lachs.

Before the meeting, returning members Laurie Lachs and Susanna Chiu, and new member Mark Carangelo were sworn in.

At the meeting, school superintendent Victor Valeski once again reiterated his commitment to providing student with a safe space and resources to deal with trauma and fear after Wednesday's violence at the U.S. Capitol.
