High School Students Head to Boys and Girls State

Over a dozen students head to summer leadership programs this year.

Over a dozen students from Hanover Park High School were selected to participate in this year's Boys State and Girls State programs.

From East Hanover, Post #421, students chosen to participate in Boys State as delegates are:

Alternates:

  • Michael LoConte

For Girls State from East Hanover, students chosen as delegates are:
  • Gabrielle Adamo
  • Maria Jennings
  • Katherine Wong

Alternates:
  • Monica Arceo
  • Michaela Tricola

From Florham Park Post #43, Emily Portuguese was selected as a delegate to Girls State. For Boys State from Florham Park, selected delegates are:
  • Carter Campbell
  • Liam Kang
  • Nicholas LaShell
  • Alexander Nazartsev
  • Jeffrey Rolsing
  • Francisco Ruela
  • Emmett Simmons
  • Seth Wadleigh

Boys State and Girls State are sponsored by the American Legion. Students are usually selected and nominated by their history teachers, and students participate in leadership and citizenship programs during the course of the program.

The students usually represent the best students each town has to offer.

Girls and Boys States can be used as college credit, and students who participate can qualify for select scholarships and other awards.
