Home's Door Kicked in During Burglary Attempt

No items reported missing from Edgemount Road home, East Hanover Police said.

An Edgemount Road resident returned home last week and found his back door kicked in but no items missing from inside, East Hanover Police said.

According to police, officers arrived at the residence at about 9:45 p.m last Wednesday night and saw the back door kicked in and the door jam split, but couldn't open the door completely because of heavy boxes and a washing machine blocking it.

The homeowner told officers nothing appeared to be missing and everything else seemed in order, police said.

Police said a search of the area was unsuccessful.

Officers spoke to neighbors around the area and one neighbor said they saw a suspicious male between 2:30 and 6 p.m. that day who was was running through the yard and in the street, police said. The neighbor described him as a bald white between 5-foot-8' and 6-feet tall with a thin build between the ages of 35 and 45.

The detectives bureau is investigating the incident.
