Departing Superintendent Sees 'Great Things' in East Hanover Schools
Dr. Joseph Ricca thanked the East Hanover Council for support and let them know some of what to expect from the 2013-14 school year.
Departing East Hanover Superintendent Dr. Joseph Ricca received a standing ovation from the Township Council Monday after he gave his last annual Back to School presentation.
"We stood shoulder-to-shoulder with each one of you," Ricca said. "I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of it, and I want to thank you for all your support over the years."
Students in the East Hanover Township School District go back to school on Monday, Sept. 9. The week before, teachers have two days of in-service training followed by a two-day holiday for Rosh Hashanah.
"The East Hanover schools are absolutely ready for a fantastic 2013-14 academic year," Ricca said. "We've been doing a lot of work over the summer, and it's hard to believe it's already August 5, and we're looking forward to the fall."
Ricca said East Hanover schools have a lot to be proud of, in part because of the support the school administration and Board of Education have received from the East Hanover Township Council.
In particular, he cited the council's leadership during Hurricane Sandy, when Mayor Joseph Pannullo worked with Ricca to get East Hanover Middle School opened as an overnight shelter.
"This year we're going to be looking to do great things, not only with our academics but with our athletics and other extracurricular activities," Ricca said. "The administrative team is second to none, and our faculty and staff are ready to move forward when September comes."
As for his replacement, Ricca said the Board of Education would likely have an announcement in the next few weeks.
