Range Rover Stolen from Resident's Driveway

Two credit cards were inside the car when it was stolen.

One East Hanover resident woke up to a nasty surprise the morning of August 6.

Sgt. Thomas McPartland responded to a Sheldon Court home at about 6 a.m. Monday on a report of a stolen vehicle, according to police reports. The resident said his 2011 black Land Rover Range Rover, worth about $63,000, had been last seen parked and locked in the driveway at about 1 a.m. Monday morning.

When the victim left the house at 6 a.m. the vehicle was missing, despite the fact the key was inside the home.

The owner also said he left his driver's license and two credit cards in the car. One of the credit card companies contacted the owner later Monday to say there had been four purchase attempts totalling $876 at a ShopRite in Elizabeth.

Police got the vehicle's keys and went to the ShopRite in an attempt to recover the vehicle, but they were unable to locate or recover the car.

Several other area towns, including Florham Park, Chatham Borough, Madison and Chatham Township, have had similar car thefts in past months.
