Stolen Mercedes Recovered Early Tuesday

Police ask anyone with information on the crime to call 973-377-2200.

Florham Park Police found a stolen Mercedes Tuesday morning, two days after they first received a report the car was missing.

According to Capt. Robert Treiber of the Florham Park Police, Officer Brian Sampson responded to the Brooklake Country Club at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday on a report of a stolen car.

The victim told Sampson he parked his 2010 Mercedes Benz SC 550, valued at more than $67,000, in the parking lot at 1:45 p.m. When he returned to the lot at 4 p.m. the car was missing.

The victim said he left the vehicle unlocked and the key fob was in the center console.

At about midnight the morning of July 23, the New Jersey State Police located the stolen Mercedes abandoned on Mead Street in Newark, Treiber said.

Florham Park Detectives are investigating. Anyone with information should contact detectives at 973-377-2200 or if they wish to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 973-COP-CALL.

Treiber reminded residents to lock their vehicles and remove all keys and key fobs. Surrounding towns have experienced a notable increase in stolen vehicles, especially high-end vehicles with key fobs left inside the car, he said.
