Suspicious SUV Followed Middle Schooler: Florham Park PD

The girl told police that the driver kept beeping at her, until her dad was able to pick her up.

FLORHAM PARK, NJ — A suspicious SUV followed a female Ridgedale Middle School home Monday afternoon, prompting police to issue a warning to the community.

The student told police that she was startled when an SUV started honking its horn for "a long period of time" as she was walking home from school, Florham Park police said. The driver slowed down and smiled at her, and looped back around to drive back towards the student. Police say the driver kept beeping his horn at the girl, until she was able to get into her dad's car and call the police.

The SUV is described as a royal or dark blue car, potentially a Honda, and was last seen driving north on Greenwood Ave. Police say the driver was described as "a black male, approximately 25 years of age, with a scruffy beard and black hair, wearing a long-sleeved dress shirt and sun glasses."

The man did not threaten the student, and he did not attempt to lure her. Still, students should be cautious, and police are asking that anyone who sees something suspicious call police immediately.
