BURLINGTON, NJ – Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey (LSMNJ), a faith-based nonprofit organization based in Burlington, New Jersey, recently received a $7,500 grant from Investors Foundation to support The Villa at Florham Park, a senior living community in Morris County, New Jersey. The grant will help further The Villa’s mission of serving senior adults of all faiths and backgrounds through a holistic approach to wellness that seeks to enhance each individual’s physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual well-being by upgrading the facility’s outdated audiovisual technology.

The funds received will be used to make essential upgrades to the audiovisual system at The Villa, which was originally installed in 2000. These upgrades, including the installation of new equipment, will advance communication and inclusion for The Villa’s seniors. In addition to facility announcements, the audiovisual equipment will be used to provide a variety of programs to Villa residents. These programs range from live entertainment and weekend movie screenings to virtual field trips, lectures, and daily religious services. From devotional music and Bible study to cooking demos and exercise classes, The Villa’s audiovisual system is an important tool for enriching the lives of community members—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While before COVID-19, the audiovisual system was used primarily as a social tool, during the pandemic it has proven to be instrumental in communicating important facility announcements, sharing department updates, and keeping everyone abreast of the plans for addressing quarantine guidelines. Rather than a nicety, it has become an essential part of daily life.

“The ability for each resident of The Villa to take part in everything from religious services to birthday parties unifies the community,” shares vice president of philanthropy Alison Lauck. “With this grant, we are able to enhance our technology to reach those who may not be up to an in person gathering, but who can still enjoy the activities. This is a real boost to our services and to the residents’ spirits.” Perhaps most importantly, for residents who may be confined to their apartments, the upgrades this grant enables will increase the ability to address feelings of isolation, a major factor for depression among The Villa’s aging population.

"We are pleased to be able to provide this grant through the Investors Foundation to help the residents of The Villa at Florham Park stay engaged, entertained and informed. Ensuring that seniors do not feel isolated is so critical to both their physical and mental well-being, especially during this pandemic," said Investors Bank Senior Vice President and Retail Market Executive Victoria Magliacane.
