Visit The Little Red Schoolhouse In Florham Park During October Tour Of Historic Spots

Florham Park's Little Red Schoolhouse is part of 20 historic places in Morris County that will be highlighted during 7th Annual Tour.

Zipping from soccer games to the supermarket on paved roads alongside manicured lawns and business complexes can make us easily forget how steeped Morris County is in history. But sometimes, there are reminders that stand tall and strong like Florham Park's Little Red Schoolhouse, a clear and heartwarming emblem of the past that is part of this year's 7th Annual Tour of Historic Places in Morris County.

The Annual Pathways of History tour is an event that showcases some of Morris County's oldest places. The Little Red Schoolhouse in Florham Park is over a hundred years old, erected in about 1866 right next to the spot where townspeople then built the first school house. The Schoolhouse, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, is a one-room classroom that represents the beginning of public school education.

Other spots in the tour this year include small, volunteer-run historic properties in Boonton, Boonton Township, Butler, Dover, Kinnelon, Lake Hopatcong, Mine Hill, Montville Township, Mount Tabor, Parsippany, Pequannock Township, Randolph, Riverdale, Roxbury Township and Washington Township. Some of the locations are legacy buildings, revered and treasured by their communities. Others have been rescued from oblivion by concerned, preservation-minded groups and individuals who understood their significance. Children's activities will be held at some of the locations.
