VP Pence Visits Florham Park Diner, Orders Cheesecake, Cookies

Vice President Mike Pence was in town for a fundraiser, and made time for a snack.

FLORHAM PARK, NJ — When in New Jersey, Vice President Mike Pence did as the New Jerseyans do: he stopped by a diner and ordered a snack.

Pence popped into the Florham Park Diner last Friday, diner owner Vicki Grapsas told Patch, and ordered a slice of cherry cheesecake and some chocolate chip cookies. He also took time to chat with patrons and employees, they said.

The visit came as a surprise to the diner owners. Grapsas said the only notice they got was when Secret Service showed up around 3 p.m. to secure the area about 15 minutes before he arrived. Pence left when his flight was ready to take off from nearby Morristown Municipal Airport.

"He stayed about 20 minutes, shook hands and met with many of our patrons and left with a cherry cheesecake and chocolate chip cookies for his plane ride back to Washington," Grapsas told Patch.

She described the visit as a "once in a lifetime experience."

"It was a once in a lifetime experience, I think, for everyone," Grapsas said. "Vice President Pence, along with Jay Webber, made sure to stop by every customer's table to meet with them. Everyone seemed to be honored to meet him"

Pence was in town for a fundraiser for fellow Republican Jay Webber, a current assemblyman running for Congress in New Jersey's 11th district. His opponent, Democrat Mikie Sherrill, has also stopped by the diner several times, the Daily Record reported.
