Wet Weather Won't Stop Morris County St. Pat's Parade

Parade committee will only call off event if safety becomes a concern.

Rain or shine, the Irish will be fine.

That’s the statement from the St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee, ready to launch the 37th Annual Morris County event on South Street in Morristown at noon Saturday.

Just a day ahead of the big event, which draws tens of thousands of spectators to the county seat, weather forecasts show for heavy rains throughout Saturday morning and into the afternoon, accompanied by heavy fog before 3 p.m. High temperatures will reach 50 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

“The Morris County St. Patrick’s Parade marches rain or shine,” the committee said in a statement. “The Irish are accustom to the rain, so this should not be a problem for us. We have always been very lucky with the weather, so we are hoping that the rain will hold off until after two o’clock, but if it does rain we will still march.”

The parade has only been hampered by weather twice; once due to snow that blocked the streets, and another because of high winds and falling debris that caused safety concerns.

Pre-parade activities begin at 10:15 a.m., and a full itinerary can be found here. Parking at four different garages in town, along with metered parking, will be free between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday.

The parade committee said it will be monitoring the forecast, and should it appear there will be safety issues, an emergency safety date of March 21 has been established.
