Nine horses died in a truck crash on the New Jersey Turnpike on Sunday, police said.

EAST WINDSOR – Nine horses died in a truck crash on the New Jersey Turnpike on Sunday, police said.
The crash happened at 3 a.m. at milepost 68.6 in East Windsor, police said.
The driver and passenger, who were not immediately identified, were treated at a local hospital, police said.

The crash happened when the truck, traveling in the truck lanes, struck the concrete divider, police said.
The truck then became fully engulfed in flames, police said.

Part but not all of the roadway was closed off for several hours, police said.
