
Melvin H. Kreps Middle School’s student council was recently named Year One Honor School at the New Jersey Association of Student Councils’ Winter Conference, according to a news release.
This award is given to a student council that “meets on a regular basis, follows proper parliamentary procedure, runs proper school officer elections, and provides services that benefit the school and community,” the news release said.
The council’s advisor, Kathy Dziuba, was also recognized at the conference for serving for five years, and seventh grader Parnika Puri won an election to serve as the Middle Level Representative to the state office.

One middle school student serves as the representative to the state council and to run for this position Parnika had to fundraise and use the money in accordance with the NJASC rules, the release said. She ran a campaign to increase NJASC outreach and attendance at the summer Leadership Training Conference.
The East Windsor Regional School District Board of Education recognized the award recipients, at their Feb. 13 meeting.

“Kreps is very proud to have received this recognition and be an active member of the NJASC,” the release said.
