Committee To Teach East Windsor Residents About Census Importance

The goal of the 2020 Census Complete Count Committee is to increase participation in the Census and ensure an accurate population count.

EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — East Windsor has established a committee to help raise awareness for the 2020 Census. The goal of the 2020 Census Complete Count Committee is to increase participation in the Census to ensure an accurate count of everyone who lives in the community, the township announced.

East Windsor residents, business members and representatives of community organizations are invited to participate.

The U.S. Census Bureau is required by the U.S. Constitution to conduct a count of the national population every 10 years. Census data, which is confidential and protected by law, is used to determine the number of seats each state has in the United States House of Representatives.

It is necessary for an accurate and fair redistricting of state legislative seats, and local voting districts.

Population also has an impact on federal and state funding allocated to communities. It also helps forecast future housing and transportation needs for the local population, attract new businesses to the area and direct funds for area social services and other planning tools.

“It is important that every single East Windsor resident is represented and included in the 2020 Census,” Mayor Janice Mironov said. “Achieving a complete count is essential to ensuring that East Windsor receives maximum funding and is accurately and fairly represented in our state legislature and Congress. The 2020 Census Complete Count Committee will assist the Township in achieving our goal of a complete census count by educating the community on the importance of the census and motivating everyone to respond. Anyone who is interested in volunteering to serve on this committee should contact the township.”

The committee will discuss and create strategies with township officials, develop and enact an awareness campaign to encourage participation by population groups that are often undercounted, and plan and conduct local educational initiatives.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the East Windsor 2020 Census Complete Count Committee should contact the Mayor’s Office at the Municipal Building, 16 Lanning Boulevard, East Windsor, New Jersey, 08520.
