East Windsor Begins Project To Expand Senior Center
The expansion will help accommodate the growth in senior center memberships, said town officials.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ - East Windsor kicked off construction to expand the township’s Senior Center. Mayor Janice S. Mironov, along with Council Members Denise Daniels, Marc Lippman, Alan Rosenberg and John Zoller, held a groundbreaking ceremony recently.
The expansion project is set to add about 5,000 square feet of space to the rear of the building, and another 785 square feet to the north side. The existing 11,000 square foot building will then be able to accommodate the extensive growth in the senior center membership.
Town officials said the additional space and locations are intended to maximize use of the current site. It will also provide flexibility in space configuration, to best accommodate and enhance access to the fitness, social and educational programs and activities offered at the Senior Center.

The construction work was awarded to the low bidder, Developer Builders of New Milford, New Jersey, and will continue into 2021.
“There has been a tremendous amount of excitement within the community since the township announced the expansion of the East Windsor Senior Center,” said Mironov. She said the Senior Center serves as a focal point in the community, offering local seniors a place to engage in a variety of recreational, educational and health-related programs, as well as to socialize.

“Although the Senior Center currently is closed to the public due to the health situation, we are really enthusiastic to be moving forward on this major project that will offer increased program and socialization opportunities for our senior community when we are able to reopen safely,” she said.
The Senior Center Expansion Project is being supported in part by significant grant awards successfully obtained by the township, including a $1 million grant from the Mercer at Play program, and a $400,000 grant from the New Jersey Small Cities Community Development Block Grant program.
