East Windsor Encourages Sustainability Through Community Garden

The township's 'community garden' program welcomes residents to grow their own fruits and vegetables.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — If you live in East Windsor and love gardening, this may be the perfect chance to grown your own nutritious food.

The township is now giving residents the opportunity to rent a plot of land at the ‘community garden’ to plant fruits and vegetables.

Mayor Janice Mironov said the gardening programs is an affirmation of East Windsor’s commitment to a greener environment and more sustainable community.

“The Community Garden is an environmentally friendly initiative which offers unique benefits and educational opportunities to residents of all ages to learn basic agricultural principles and to share valued community goals.” Mironov said in a statement.

“We encourage residents to participate in this fun, educational and productive community program by planting their own garden.”

Applications for participation in the ‘community garden’ are now available. You can start planting in early April.

Gardeners will be assigned a plot, identified by a numbering system.

Detailed information is available to participants and an orientation will be held with a full review of the rules and guidelines, information for access to plot, and guidance on how to start a new garden.

The community garden is located on Disbrow Hill Road open space, adjacent to the Disbrow Hill playing fields and across from Etra Lake Park.
