East Windsor Is giving Away Free Tree Saplings

The township will be promoting Arbor Day with a free tree sapling giveaway.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — The East Windsor Township Environmental Commission will be promoting Arbor Day with a free tree sapling giveaway event on May 1 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., or until supplies run out.

The event will take place at the East Windsor Police Athletic League fields on Airport Road. The rain date for this event is May 8.

American Holly saplings will be available to township residents on a first-come-first-served basis.

“Arbor Day is a wonderful time for both children and adults to remember and appreciate the beauty of our environment and to commit to preserving, improving, and replenishing our trees and woodlands,” Mayor Janice Mironov said in a statement.

“Tree planting is a wise investment in our community and the vitality of our future, so we encourage residents to take advantage of this seedling distribution event.”

American Holly is an evergreen tree with dark green, spine-tipped leaves and light gray bark. It has tiny, greenish-white flowers that bloom in May and June and berry-bearing fruit that feed birds during the winter and provides nectar to honeybees and butterflies.
